project 12 of 33 : felt christmas tree.

It feels awesome to get back on the 33 project train. I've got a little under 3 months to finish these projects by 03.03.13! It's been fun challenging myself for project ideas. The house has become our own crafty museum if you will.  Here is #12...
A felt Christmas tree! Right now it's sitting on the end table in the family room. I think I will always love the color green. And the fact that the bottom panel of our walls are red? Even better for Christmas time.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Styrofoam cone
2 pieces of felt
Scissors
Pins
Round shape (to trace the circles)
Marker (not shown)
To trace the circles, I used one of my washi tapes. You can use any item you have around the house that fits the size you like. The longest part of this project was cutting out the circles. It took both sheets of felt to fill the tree up with circles. You might need more felt depending on the size of the circle you choose.
Once all the circles are cut, start pinning them onto the styrofoam cone. I started at the bottom which seems like the way to go. I went with every other color and just let the pattern go as I went up the cone. Some of the greens were the same on top of each other but it didn't matter, I liked the way the colors flowed.
It turned out awesome! The top part was a little tricky. I just had to play with it until it looked the way I liked. I just took 2-3 circles and pinned them to the top of the cone, in the same pattern I had done all the way up. It looked good to me!
The pins really add a cute little touch to it. The small silver dot in the middle of each circle just adds something to it you know? This project probably took me a total of 20ish minutes, the longest part is cutting out all the circles of course. You could get a smaller cone and would take even less time. Or could do a bunch of small cones and put them all around the house! I love the pop of green it adds to the room.
