project 9 of 33 : bleach painting on textiles.

 The supplies you need for this project are most probably already in your home!

• bleach
• bowl for bleach
• paint brush
• cotton shirt
• white towel (for potential spills or drips)
• white chalk
• cardboard or something thick and flat

Place the shirt on top of cardboard. If necessary, use a little bit of painters tape to keep the shirt in place. Take the piece of white chalk and draw/write your design on the shirt. This is the tricky part. I used one of the kids' big piece of sidewalk chalk. It was hard to see what I wanted to write. If I had to do it over again I would've tried to find a smaller piece, maybe that would've helped. But I had the gist of what I wanted to write on the shirt. 

Next step, dip your little paintbrush into the bleach bowl (just like painting) and paint over your design on the shirt you just drew with chalk. On each stroke, you might want to dab the paintbrush into the bleach a few times to make sure you cover the space you want visible.

After a few brushes of bleach, you can start to see your design appear.  Mine isn't fully white like the one on A Beautiful Mess, but it works, and it was fun to do.
