project 2 of 33 : string art.

Pinterest is a godsend.  Seriously.  The greatest invention for crafters.  Some days when I'm looking at craft after craft I think to myself....one day I'll do that.  Then other days I find something and I want to do it immediately.  That's what happened with this string art.  I headed directly to the store and bought all the supplies.
Supplies needed:
  • a piece of wood
  • embroidery floss
  • wire nails
  • paint
  • image of your choice
Piece of advice.  Don't paint outside when little bugs are flying! After two coats of paint I realized to bring the wood inside to dry because little tiny bugs would land on the wood and then get stuck there lol

The main images on Pinterest were all mainly states.  I liked the idea of doing the state of Ohio.  I wanted a bit of pop when it came to color. So I chose to paint the wood a bright yellow.  I bought white embroidery floss thinking the white will stand out.  It sure does, I love the way it looks against the yellow. Thanks babe for hammering the nails in they look fabulous!
And the stringing begins! I wasn't sure where to start. So with the help of Kevin I tied a little knot and put it around the first nail.  Then just went to town.  Start with the outline of the state and then go to the center heart and just go back and forth until you develop a pattern you like.  The string was all over the place. The messier the better.
This piece of art will hopefully go in our bedroom. Which is a work in progress. The walls are painted, the headboard is done but that's about it. I loved doing this string art. I thought about doing one for each of the kids and putting their initials on one for their rooms. They would love it. This project was very easy, well....except for the parts that Kev helped me with. He was a trooper. At one point he even said, "instead of this being a DIY it should be DIK" lol Very happy with the end results!
