project 1 of 33 : upholstered chairs.

I've been wanting to cover our dining room chairs for awhile now.  Looking for the right fabric has been hard.  Every time I go to the store, I check the fabric aisles and have had no luck. Until.....yesterday!!!
Our dining room chairs were perfectly fine.  However, I wanted a new look for them.  I was tired of the plaid blue.  I found the fabric at Hobby Lobby.  Wasn't very cheap, but on sale so that helped.  It has all the colors of our walls in it, plus a few other bright colors that makes it flow in the dining room.  Kev's first reaction was "ehh it'll grow on me".  But when he saw it on the actual chair verses just the fabric folded up?  He loved it.
First I took the seat out of the chairs by unscrewing it.  You might need a pair of pliers to get the screws out but luckily these were easy to get out with my hands.

To figure out how much fabric you will need....really depends on the chairs.  The lady at the store recommended 1 1/2 yards of fabric for 4 standard dining room chairs.  I decided to go with 2 yards in case I messed something up.  To measure the fabric I thought it was going to be a disaster. After many google searches I found a great source that said cut the fabric about 5 inches from the seat on all sides. Easy enough right?
Next I stapled the fabric onto each seat. You will need a hefty staple gun.  Kev bought me a light duty staple gun at Home Depot, and it works like a charm.  Make sure to pull in the fabric on each side, as tight as you can before stapling so it's nice and snug.  It didn't matter which part of the fabric I used to be shown on the seat because I loved every part of the pattern.  I wanted them all to be a little different.
These turned out awesome!!!  I love the new look it brings to the dining room.  The colors flow nicely in our home.  Check plus for the first project.  This is going to be fun!
